I am going to get a new embroidery only machine this week. I am looking at Brother PE-770 or the PE-780D
I am looking at the brother website and doing a comparison I don't see much of a difference. The 780 has disney. That's the biggest difference I see. In another thread last month I mentioned that I was looking at the 770 and you wonderful ladies shared a couple sites to look at. I can find allbrands listed but for the life of me I can't find the other site. Thought I bookmarked them but now success that way. hehehe
Can someone please tell me again what site they got theirs with extras? And any help with the model difference would be great too. I look forward to hearing what you all have to say.

Okay, this is very important, be sure that you can use downloaded files. The first emboidery machine I bought could only use the disc you inserted into the machine. If you can use files off the internet, there is no end to what you can do with your machine. The best for the money was a Singer Quantum Futura. With all it offers, it is a power house machine. I still go back to it all the time and I have a Bernina Aurora 430. Compare the prices on the two machines and you will see what I mean, Bernina cost about 2000.00 maybe even 2500.00 and the Singer cost 799.00 I love both machines and both can use PES files which is what Brother machines use. Both through software have digitizing capabilities. That may or may not become important to you later if you would like to create your own designs. I hope this is helpful to you.

Don't know how 'in to' Disney you are, but brother machines are the only ones that have Disney designs, but only the Brother machines with a "D". If you don't get a "D" model, you will not be able to use Disney designs.

Thank you ladies. I'm really not into disney. So not a big deal if it doesn't.
I already have the Brother PE-400 and love the ease of using Brother machines. The machines I have mentioned above are between $500 and $800 that's another reason I am looking at them. My pe400 even hooks up to computer. It's so limited though. only a 4x4 hoop.

You will find that you are so limited with a 4x4 in hoop and may get bored really fast and then that great price that you thought your machine was isn't so great anymore. Lets face it, once you walk out of the store you'll lose alot of money if you go to sell it. You may want to check around to find one that has larger hoops; even it doesn't come with a larger hoop see how large of one you can go up to. My Ruby came with a small 4x4 and then a really large 360x200. Since then I've bought others ranging in different ones ranging in sizes including the 8x8 quilters hoop and the endless hoop where you can keep feeding fabric thru and do a long continous design or make long strands of lace, etc. The point is I can grow into my machine instead of growing out of really fast.

I have the PE770. I think the PE780 is just a newer model. Mine does not do Disney, I don't mind. You have a 5x7 area, but you can purchase a 5x12 hoop also. Just know that the 5x12 does not mean that you can embroider a 5x12 design. It means that you can move the hoop over to do something else, without rehooping. You can download PES or DST files. I like the PES better, because the DST does not show the picture. The screen is black and white, a little small, but for the money, this is a good buy. I view the designs on the computer. You use a USB stick to load your files on the machine. There are also a lot built in. Good luck with your choice!

Oh thank you Freddie for giving me this info. I was wondering about the 5x12 hoop. so it might help with continuous designs. I know others have said they really like it too. So now it's a matter of where to buy it. I will google online and start calling around to see what kinds of extras they will include. I know there are posts somewhere on the forum about this. I will have to do a search.
Yes Judy that's what has happened with the pe400, I got it as a gift so I have used it and will keep it to do smaller designs and to have an extra sewing machine on hand.

Don't know where you live exactly, but there are a couple stores in Orange that you can go test drive the machines. Moores and Allbrands is in Garden Grove. I think Moores has another store in S. OC. Maybe if you try them you can decide.

I am in Westminster, I have been to both stores. I really like Allbrands in Garden Grove. Maybe I will go see them. Moores seems to try to get you to go to the higher models. But they are really nice too. Thank you for the recommendations Elaine

Well I just called both stores and they don't carry that model. They tried to talk me into a more expensive machine. argh!!!! They both also told me about financing. hehehe Well my quest continues. I love the built in designs of this one too.
I will find something I know I will. Just frustrating, I guess they have to make a living too. Ok I'm done moaning. LOL
