OPI has a great nail strenghtener. I have a lot of allergies. I find if I use cleaning products without gloves my nails within a couple of days will start to split.
I have rubber glovess all over the house.

The way to remember to drink water is every time you go pee, drink a glad of water to replace what you just got rid of. My hubbies 100 year old grandma told me this. But back to the split nails, I started taking vitamins for 50+ and Vitamin C and D, and my nails are back to being healthy again and I am feeling better. Mine were thin and splitting in layers also. I too have this problem. Will try some of the remedies mentioned here and hope they help. Thanks. I also spend the winters in Fl. and am in the salt water pool every day for 1 hour. By the time I go home in May, my nails are beautiful and last til about Oct., before they start to peel again. So maybe something to the salt.

I have the same problem, and I absolutely love this product. I carry it in my purse, and it doesn't leak. I've had the same tube for about two years. When I'm riding along in the car with my husband driving, I use it then. I rub it into my cuticles and my nails, and it helps. If you use it regularly, I'm betting you'll notice a difference.

Another less convenient, but cheaper, product that I keep at home is this:

I keep bottles of this at home because I'm afraid they'll leak in my purse. They're great too.

I take fish oil too. I don't know if it helps or not, but my nails and cuticles still split. It might help, but it's not the total solution.

First off ladies, never clip your nails always use a nail fils and file in one direction, not back and forth. Drink lots of water and if your cuticles are dry put lots of hand cream on them, slip them into a plasic bag and whap your hands in a towel. The warmth will soften them up. If you have someone to help you put a towl in the microwave to warm it up then wrap them up. Why do I know this, it is because I am a nail tech and hair dresser. OraLee

Mix a package of Knox Gellitin in your orange juice daily and you see how well it helps your nails

They sell nail strengtheners that you apply like a clear nail polish that help. They are found at most drugstores with the nail polish.

In the meantime, slather them with lotion every time you walk by a bottle. It can't hurt.

I had the same problem and found that I was low on calcium.
I started taking Citracal +D, Maximum 2 times a day. After several months I had to start cutting them every 10-12 days. Sorry, it won't help the cuticles, still have to use cream for them.
