Default I need help please

Attached are pictures of my new quilt that I plan to enter into our local quild quilt show. I have to drop it off on Wednesday. The quilt lays flat on the floor and measures 90 inches square, but when I hang it up.... disaster. I remade the sleeve and sewed it on twice and it still hangs crooked. I have heard about blocking a quilt, but have never had to do it. Can anyone offer any advice to make it hang straight?

Could it be where you're hanging it is crooked? Do you have a long level like carpenters use? Your quilt is stunning! Beautiful.

Beautiful quilt! I believe most blocking methods have you spray the quilt with water and then block to dry. BEFORE you spray, make sure all your fabrics are colour fast by washing fabric scraps and laying thm on white paper towel to dry. I wouldn't want to take a chance on a fabric bleed.

I can see why you are entering it in the quilt show - it is beautiful! Is the quilt sleeve long enough? I don't know anything about sleeves so don't know if that is what makes it hang that way.

Your quilt is beautiful!!! I don't know the answer to your question, but I can tell you that I helped hang quilts at our local quilt show, and many of them didn't hang straight. I do't know why, but I thought at the time that was just the way it was...that gravity was at work or that our rods to hang them on were at fault or something. We hung quilts "back to back" and that seemed to help some.

Not much help. Sorry. If your quilt is square, it almost has to be the sleeve, but you have already thought of that...

Here's a tutorial on how to block your quilt using laser level squares (from the hardware store):

She blocks before adding the hanging sleeve.

ditto ... if it is square and lays flat on the floor, then it should hang properly.

From your photo, it appears you have it hanging from a very thin rod.
Perhaps it is bending? which could cause your problem.

Is your hanging sleeve attached so that it sits right on top of the rod?
If not, I would think that could be your problem too.

Great Quilt ... and Good Luck at your show.

No advice on hanging it but just to say that it is spectacular!!! You HAVE to win something! Do let us know what happens.
