Default Strip pieced disappearing nine patch

Does anyone know where I can find a pattern to strip piece the disappearing nine patch?

Thanks,
Lu in TN

Good afternoon. I am not sure that I understand your request.

Often when assembling the nine patch block, I sew three strips together lengthwise and then cut the required width from the length of the new strip. I find this is the fastest way in which to assemble the original nine patch block. There are several ways to cut the resulting block to create the disappearing nine patch sections.

Your blocks could be either even (same size patches) or uneven (different size patches) nine patches, depending upon the desired result.

There is another technique for creating both a negative and a positive nine patch block. You start with two squares of equal dimensions, right sides together, and sew down the left and right sides only with a 1/4 inch seam. Then you cut the squares in strips. Putting one strip on each pieced strip to create alternating colors (red, white, red and white, red, white).

Good luck! Please don't hesitate to respond if I am way off base :-)

Here is the pattern and you can sew the nine patch block anyway you want before cutting it.

I did a D9P without making the nine patch first. I strip pieced it and it was a lot faster. You make two different strip sets and then cut into sections and sew the blocks. I haven't written that pattern out yet though.

Do you mean to strip piece the 9 Patch blocks? That is a very simple thing that you can do yourself but I am sure there are tutorials on it on the net. All you do is cut your strips the size you want for the 9 patches plus seam allowances. You then sew 2 different stratas, one with the dark colour on each side of the center light fabric and one the second strata you reverse the colours. Once you have the long stratas sewn together you sub-cut the sections for your blocks and sew the blocks back together for the 9 Patch.

If you don't want to figure it out yourself, here are links to this blogger's 2-part tutorial:

My favorite is made from Charm Pkgs. from Missouri Star Quilt Co. This one is not strips but charms but please check it out. She is great with all her tutorials!
