I guess I should have titled this "question" instead of problem. Have any of you done a Quilt for Kids quilt? The staff is not in today or I would have called them directly, but I figured someone on this board could help me.

There are a couple of 3" wide borders on the quilt I'm making (the design is a 4-patch center surrounded by a border, surrounded by a border, surrounded by a border). I have done all the SID quilting, but the directions always remind you "don't forget to quiilt the borders, too". Does this mean I should sew a line down the center of each of the borders so it looks like channel quilting? Should I just leave it as it is? I would think that quilting every 3 inches would be enough , but I'm just not sure. I wouldn't want them to think I do shoddy work. Do any of you have any advice for me?

I would think they may be just suggesting that you could quilt the border. But, if you are happy with the batting staying put with your quilting SID, that's probably OK. (PS: I'm a transplant to near Boston from 'little' Washington :-P ) Happy Quilting

They do want you to quilt the borders. I just did a wavy line going down through the middle of the wide outside border.

Yes, they want the borders quilted too. They want them to hold up to a lot of laundering. I just continued the SID lines out thru the border on one. On the other I was going diagonal across the blocks and just continued those lines out thru the border. A wavy line thru the border is another option. Thanks for making the Quilts for Kids!

Thank you so much, everyone. Now I know what to do.

I always get such good responses to my posts. I knew you would come through. This board is so great!

I did sort of an up, over, down, over, etc. kind of looks like piano keys. These quilts will be washed 3-4 times a week, they say.

They want lots of quilting on them because of the amount of use that they get. They are well loved and washed often. They also don't want to take a chance that any of the quilt will catch on the medical equipment.
