Yes thanks Cherie. Surge protection I probably would think about but not the generator thing, it would have not crossed my mind until I had a problem. Thanks for the heads up.

I have an inexpensive Brother Machine, from Walmart that I keep for anytime I have to get in a vehicle. I will NOT put my quilter's machine in a car unless it needs to see the mechanic. (service rep)

We just got a motorhome this past spring and the first thing I did was scope out a place for my machine. I have an elna, brother(sew-&-embroidery), and a singer. I have a travel suitcase for a machine and the things to go with it.
That said,I was in Tx for 5 wks and didn't take it out once. Don't get me wrong I worked on projects, but I hand pieced and quilted. Being that it was our first trip, well things happen and electical problems which didn't help. I will continue to take one with me when we go any where.(electics are fixed.) I will say that I loved sitting and hand piecing. Getting that 1/4th in seam and straight line stitches. :) Beth

e-bay sewing machines:buyer beware
my first good sewing machine was a viking 2000, i traided it in sadly for a new model years later. then i wanted it back years later. well my son heard me say that. he found 2 on e-bay and bought them for me. they looked great, but one was damanged in shipping and it was packed good, the other a can inside was broken. then i found out that the factory burned down in germany. they will not replace any parts. i will not buy any thing i can not test first from now on.

If you are only piecing, the 301 is great. I prefer it to the FW. It's gear driven so it's more powerful than the FW and has a larger throat area. But it is a straight stitch only. The feed dogs drop though so you can do free motion quilting with it. I love mine and they are not nearly as expensive as the FW.

I have to agree with you on the 301. I sell them both but the 301 is a stronger machine. You can purchase a zig zag attachment if you really want to do a zig zag stitch.I really love them both though....

We full timed for 10 years and I took my Viking with the embodiery attachment all the time. Lots of storage and room to set up on table. Not a problem. Have fun.
