So many ideas..... WoW... and beautiful pictures of quilts to inspire me. I'm going to the LQS this morning to see if there is anything that will match their interests. Then it's shopping on the internet for some more. I'm hoping to be able to start one next week. Thanks you all......

If their favorite teams are professional teams then I would suggest ordering some of the fabric that is copyrighted in the team logo and making either the blocks fussy cut with the emblems or a large center panel and building around that. In my experience with 4 sons they won't change their preference for the professional teams during their lifetime. They will be glad to take the quilt to college with them and on into their married life.

I personally would stay away from themed quilts. I have used homespun plaids for young men. They will use them for a long time :-D

I would think that if you don't know their interests or can't find fabric in their interest that you could do a 10 min block in denim or dark masculine colors!

I made a red/black/grey/white DP with about 20 different fabrics, for my 15 year old grandson, it turned out great, and he loved it, sorry I forgot to take a picture before it went to it's new home. I am even thinking about making another one and keeping it!

I'm doing a strip quilt from military fabric...Navy, Marines, Air Force and Army for my 14 year old grandson. Saw the fabric at Hobby Lobby while shopping with my son. He picked it out when I asked for advice (he's retired Navy).

I have made a couple of Warm Wishes patterns with a focus fabric of the boy's likes, then three coordinating fabrics for the alternating blocks. Most of mine are 9" blocks to keep it simple, but blocks could be any size. This pattern also has some movement in it, giving it a good geometric design, which boys also like. I have two finished, but can't seem to get around to posting pics.

I would find out their school colors or sports team they like and use that. The last thing I would put on a quilt is snakes, unless they like them and would want to sleep under it.
