disappearing 9 patch. 9 patch. put boarders around the blocks. google charm packs on utube for tutorials or look on this site. I find the charms packs quick and easy once you decide what pattern.
here is a utube site http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aJoDt4DMkFU

check your library for one of Pat Speth's nickle quilt books. Patterns all made from 5" charms.

Here are some that I've done. The first is a version of a d9p - rather than sewing the 1/4 units back together after cutting the 9-patches, I put them on point with the opposite corners pointing up. The second is a baby quilt I made cutting the squares into triangles and piecing. The third is a row quilt I made.

ETA: I can write up some basic patterns for each of these 3 if you want them. Just let me know!

Charms...not blocks...charms..the blocks come after you sew your charms together!
so google FREE charm quilt pattern...bound to come up with quite a few!

they are also great in the center of stars using solids for the points!

I'm making some whirligigs with charms. I followed the tutorial at the link above. I've also made a quilt with charms using Elizabeth Hartman's free Charm Squares Baby Quilt pattern.
