Default Need help with tracing paper.

Can anyone tell me what is the best tracing paper for black material? I am doing the Affairs of The Heart quilt with a black background. I am using dressmaker's white tracing paper and it doesn't stay on long enough for me to finish the block. Thanks for any help.

Have you tried the yellow or pink? They show up on the black.

Thanks for replying. The problem is not the color but the white rubs off. Does the pink or yellow stay on better?

I just use regular Dritz wax free white tracing paper. Works ok and when I'm done, because it's wax free, I can wipe it off with a damp rag or paper towel.

When working on black, I like my Fons & Porter pump white chalk pencil. It has a fine chalk lead about the size of a pump pencil lead and it works really well on black. I did have to wash the last quilt I used it on to completely remove the marks.

I was told by a LA demo'r at a quilt show that you can mark the area with chalk (powder or stick) then spray lightly with water. That will hold the mark long enough to quilt that section. Haven't tried it as yet though. Have tried cheap hairspray, and that worked well. But you have to mark in sections or it will wear off with a lot of movement.

I just used the Clover brand tracing paper and the lines have stayed on enough for me to see. You could also try just going over your traced design with another chalk pencil so that they are clearer.
I am also working on my first block of the Affairs of The Heart, so far so good
