It turned out well, will post a picture. Now my question is this, has anyone every refashioned a sweatshirt and not done the quilted top layer. Have been thinking how it could be done working with only the sweatshirt and converting it to a cardigan. Anyone done anything like that without adding much fabric to it?

Do you mean just opening the front, adding fabric or ribbon binding and matching pockets? We sold a lot of those at craft shows in the 80s. I like to take off the bottom binding, too, and sometimes the binding on the sleeves so cuffs can be added.

It's not as difficult as you might think. The key is to stay stitch both sides of your cutting line BEFORE you cut. Then a simple binding strip is used to re-finish the edges.

I just wondered about that, I would like to end up with something that does not scream home made. Have to give this some thought, have a 1.99 sweatshirt I picked up at value village, so this would be great for such an experiment. I just do not want to feel like...oh you made it....but rather....I love that. Is that possible?

If left the edges raw, would they roll? That might not be a bad thing.

Unfinished edges would definitely scream 'homemade and not well done'. Grosgrain would give you the most professional looking results. I have had cardigans with grosgrain ribbon that matched the sweater or sweatshirt.

Never thought of the gros grain ribbon, knew if I bound them, I would want the binding to exactly match the sweatshirt. Thanks for your input.
