Default T-Shirt Quilt Book

Okay, I bought the book and was reading it last night and fell in love. It gave me ideas for designing quilts on my own as well as awesme ideas. My problem is I want to make this quilt for my husband out of his bowling Tshirts and two of them are polo shirts. Has anyone made a quilt using the actual top part of the polo with the collar and all? How would I even go about doing that as the team name was stitched next to where the buttons are?

i did that once. i sewed the placket shut. then added a squared piece behind the collar and shoulders, appliqueing it down. this allowed for a square block.

Thank you, I was nervous that it wouldn't work and I will use your tips. I just really wasn't sure it could be done!
