Use only cotton fabric, cotton batting, cotton thread. Anything else will melt and catch fire in the microwave.

Isacord is polyester. The advice to use only cotton is a good one. You even have to make sure your batting (which might be labelled as cotton) doesn't have any polyester or adhesives. For example, Warm and Natural won't work - the company has a special blend that is really 100% cotton that they recommend for tater bags.

The only batting I would use is called Warm Tater. Also told to only use all cotton fabric and cotton thread. Everything has to be 100% cotton or it will melt or catch fire. there is directions for everything you need on the Warm Tater paper wrap (around roll)

Thanks for the informative thread! I have always thought that the Tator bags sounded a little 'gimmicky' until on Sat when my DFIL showed me the bag his lady friend had given him. We tried it out and it really helped to bake the potatoes and they were great! So...now I am thinking I may make a few for Xmas gifts. That is...if I ever have the energy to do something other than sit in my recliner in the evenings. My kdg students are really taxing me this week!

Those tater bags make me nervous now after 2 I've made caught on fire.Used the warm tater cotton.Still burned.Have a pile that won't give as gifts.Don't want to be responsible for a fire.......
