Who taught you how to quilt?
I am self taught.

What pattern was the first quilt you made?
My first quilt was a dresden plate for my daughter

Do you still have your 1st quilt?
I still have the quilt..it needs a binding on it..my daughter doesn't like the quilt..so..I am keeping it. I don't know how someone could not like a quilt...oh well..

Which of your quilts is your favorite and why?
wow, that is a hard question..I have to say it is one I am working on right now...it is a lavender and white seven sisters quilt. I hope to get it sewn together by the end of september.

What do you do with the quilts you make?
LOL..I hourd them. I will one day start to give them away...just when i don't know.

What is the oldest quilt in your collection?
I have a quilt top that my grandmother made. She had TB in the 30's amd was in a sanitorium for 15 years. She made it laying flat on her back. One day I will quilt it.

Do you belong to a guild, or attend workshops?
I don't belong to any quilds nor do I attend workshops. I went to a local quild one time and didn't care for the click that was so obvious. I did not feel welcome.

Have you ever entered a quilt in a quilt-show or fair?
I haven't yet, but am planning on it this fall.

Have you encouraged others to try quilting?
Yes I have..but to no avail. One friend was to afraid of making a mistake. I explained...that is how we all learn..trial and error.

Why do you quilt?
It seems that all the women in my family were born creative. I went to art school and ended up a floral designer. I loved the colors of flowers, they filled my heart and satisfied my need to express myself. Twenty five years ago I started my first quilt..I got that same feeling in my heart and I knew that it was there to stay. Quilting to me is a passion for color...it has no boundries..it is open to whatever is in your mind. . . and mostly your heart. Quilting fills me up.

Peace and Blessings

Who taught you how to quilt?
Taught myself by trying it out and making a lot of mistakes.

What pattern was the first quilt you made?
No real pattern, just squares. Made for a former principal who had leukemia. Each staff member decorated a square to represent things that the principal liked to do or special memories and I sewed it together. Sadly, she passed a few days before I finished it.

Do you still have your 1st quilt?
Gave it to her husband as a memorial.

Which of your quilts is your favorite and why?
Don't have a favorite

What do you do with the quilts you make?
Almost all have been given as gifts. Still don't have one for myself.

What is the oldest quilt in your collection?
Someone gave me one made in the 30s or 40 that someone had given her. Sadly she let the dogs sleep on it so it needs a lot of repair.

Do you belong to a guild, or attend workshops?
No. Went to a class once at a quilt retreat.

Have you ever entered a quilt in a quilt-show or fair?
No, I'm not good enough yet.

Have you encouraged others to try quilting?
Yes, my SIL has started.

Why do you quilt?
It relaxes me -- unless the quilt is misbehaving.

Who taught you how to quilt? my grandmother started me when I was 9 or 10. But I mostly taught myself in the 80's when my grandchildren were being born

What pattern was the first quilt you made? a dog quilt for DH's assistant's baby.

Do you still have your 1st quilt? No, I gave it to the baby. It was used well, and survived a fire that completely destroyed their Victorian restored home.

Which of your quilts is your favorite and why? The one I'm working on. I have a short attention span!

What do you do with the quilts you make? Give them away or pile them up on a quilt rack.

What is the oldest quilt in your collection? One made by my MIL for DH's birth, 76 years ago.

Do you belong to a guild, or attend workshops? no to guild, a few to workshops

Have you ever entered a quilt in a quilt-show or fair? no

Have you encouraged others to try quilting? yes, but none were interested

Why do you quilt?
It gives me an outlet for creativity. I used to sew for myself and kids, but they are gone and i have lost interest in sewing clothes.

Who taught you how to quilt?
My Mother.
But I have wonderful memories of watching my Great Grandmother and her sisters hand quilt. The four of them would sit on each side of a frame suspended from the ceiling. And they would tell me... your time will come.

What pattern was the first quilt you made?
Log Cabin... king size (what was I thinking?!!)
Do you still have your 1st quilt?
yes, still a UFO in a box up in the loft.
Which of your quilts is your favorite and why?
My favorit is not one that I made, it is one given to me by my DM.
After the king size log cabin that I never finished...I gave up quilting for 20 years.
I got the quilting bug again last year and only recently started another quilt.
I have yet to completely finish a full size one.. I have two I'm working on now.

What do you do with the quilts you make?
I've made a baby quilt for each grandchild.
What is the oldest quilt in your collection?
probably close to 80 yrs.
Do you belong to a guild, or attend workshops?
no
Have you ever entered a quilt in a quilt-show or fair?
Not yet, but there is a quilt show next month in Jacksonville I plan on attending.
Have you encouraged others to try quilting?
I've mentioned it to my friends..but when I talk about quilting their eyes glaze over... I have even been told..quilting was for "old people" .. I guess I'm officially old =)
Why do you quilt?
It's in my blood!

Good questions! I can't wait to learn more about everyone.

I don't have much of a quilting history yet, but here it goes...

Who taught you how to quilt? I am teaching myself with wonderful resources like this.

What pattern was the first quilt you made? It is in progress and it is kind of loosely based on a pattern called "Baby Craze"

Do you still have your 1st quilt? I do since it's not done! It will go to my dearest friend's daughter.

Which of your quilts is your favorite and why? n/a

What do you do with the quilts you make? n/a, yet!

What is the oldest quilt in your collection? n/a

Do you belong to a guild, or attend workshops? I don't think there is a guild in my town. I would love to attend a workshop/class.

Have you ever entered a quilt in a quilt-show or fair? No. At the moment, that doesn't really appeal to me.

Have you encouraged others to try quilting? Yes!! I am trying to get someone else hooked on it so I have a quilting buddy!

Why do you quilt? I love, love handmade things and I am really attracted to the creative possibilities quilting offers. I love a challenge!

Who taught you how to quilt?
I was taught to quilt by my grandma and a neighbor lady at the age of 12 when I wanted to do what they did and wanted to make a gift.

What pattern was the first quilt you made?
Lemoyne star, not a good pattern to begin with. LOL!

Do you still have your 1st quilt?
Yes, it came back to me by the owners daughter when she passed away.

Which of your quilts is your favorite and why?
My favorite is always the current one I'm working one, I always think it is the best one!

What do you do with the quilts you make?
Some I keep, most I give away to friends and family or charity.

What is the oldest quilt in your collection?
Two of my grandma's from the early nineteen 100s. One applique and one simple patchwork.

Do you belong to a guild, or attend workshops?
I do not belong to a guild, used to but they demanded too much of my time and at the time didn't have time to give. Now that we are retired we are more busy with family and traveling so a guild doesn't fit our lifestyle.

Have you ever entered a quilt in a quilt-show or fair?
NO, I just sew for me.

Have you encouraged others to try quilting?
Yes, have introduced several to quilting including my two sisters.

Why do you quilt?
I guess part of it is the artist in me, as the tops are the fun part! I started quilting at a very young age of 12 cause I wanted to make a gift. I made baby quilts into my twenties to give to siblings as they had children. (I'm one of 11 siblings and have 32 nieces and nephews.) Soon after my children were born I saw an antique quilt I wanted but it was too expensive so I reproduced it! Tea dyed, the whole nine yards. Still have it.

I taught myself to quilt. My first quilt was "grandmother's garden" I still have it and its a UFO - I'm hand quilting it, it was all sewn by hand (king size). I don't have one favorite, but if I had to choose I'd say "Precious Cargo" a baby quilt I made for a past student who now works with my husband. It's bright appliqued trains. I give my quilts away as gifts. The oldest one is my first one. I don't belong to any guilds nor do I show my quilts anywhere. I encourage others only by sharing what I'm doing and I tell everyone about this board. I quilt because I love fabric, I love to touch fabric and the art of it. I love handmade things and the history of quiltmaking. Its such a facinating art form. And practical too!

OK - I'm game and unemployed - AGAIN - so I've got time.

I taught myself to quilt. Mom taught me how to wind a bobbin.
First pattern was a simple one patch that followed diagonally across the quilt.
I made it for my best high school friend's wedding present and she doesn't even remember it - about 37 years ago.
Favorite quilt? Oh, please. There is no way I could choose. There are too many. But I do love the one I sleep under, and my avatar one, and my Snail Trail, and the one I made that will finally have a grandbaby attached to it, and the one on the back of my couch.... OK you get the idea.
I give them away, I sell them, I hang them all over the house, and sleep (or rest) under them.
The oldest is another one patch thing that my mom - who knew I was getting into this - cut patches for out of the leftovers of all the clothes she made for all four of her girls. It's a moving blanket, and picnic blanket, and when it gets really cold here in Maine, I offer it to any guests who are freezing to sleep under - when it's at home and not with one of my kids.
I joined a guild one year and went to about 6 meetings. Then I had to work at night and couldn't go anymore. I have never taken a workshop or a class. I buy books, or look on-line and figure 'em out on my own.
I've never entered a quilt show but do enter into our local county fair. And I have never received less than a blue ribbon.
I encourage anyone who will listen to me - not many takers so far - they're afraid.
And I do it because it keeps me sane, and productive, and I love putting colors together and hand quilting is therapeutic, and they decorate my home and make me happy and keep me warm.
