I hope the gentleman on the underground this afternoon didn't think I was looking at him. Actually I was auditioning his hawaian print shirt and thinking what a nice OBW it would make.
Am I odd?

Wish I could tell you how many times I've said to men, and women, how very nice some piece of their clothing would be for a quilt!

NO, you're not alone!

not at all. when my husband started wood turning we stopped looking at trees as firewood and looked at lamps and bowls and all the wonderful things we could turn out of it all and the different trees produce such different grains and colours, so no you are not odd you just see everything as quilt blocks

You have company -

Once in a while a large print has a focus point that lands on a conspicuous/prominent/eye-catching body part.

I know and why is it that some large woman is usually wearing a large floral print dress,
and she thinks I am being rude!
and It doesn't help to tell them you love the fabric and want tomake a quilt!
then they just think you are really weird!

No...every man here who wears a plaid shirt is a quilt block in the making. Wish they would let me do their laundry. Wonder if they would really miss a 12" square out of the back of them?

ROFLMBO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Oh my goodness no! My husband cringes sometimes as I walk behind people and my hand starts to reach out to fondle the hem of the back of their shirt. Some of those shirts out there would make incredible quilts!!!! He swears it's a good thing I don't have a pair of scissors with me or I'd be collecting small 4-5 inch squares. Can you imagine the expression on their faces as they get home, take their shirts off and discover the back half has been cut away?

No you are definitly not alone, I once stood and stared at my boss for about 5 minutes and then asked him I could touch his shirt, I am glad that he knew me well and said why you want it for a quilt (I had made his son one) and didn't say why you want me to press charges of sexual harrassment.

I recently went to a yard sale where they had really nice, large jeans for sale. I asked the young lady how much they were and she said, " 50 cents, they belong to my ex-boyfriend." I told her I would take all of them as I wanted to make a quilt. She laughed and said, "I can't wait to tell him you're going to cut them up. Boy, is he going to be upset"!

This lady was happy, but on other occasions people aren't too happy to hear that their shirts and jeans are going to be cut up.

Well, if you are odd you are in great company. I have even asked folks where they bought an item or if I know them if they will leave it to me in their will...<giggle>.
At one point I was threatening to carry scissors to "help" the dr's off with their neckties.. I went ahead and told them I was collecting ties and wound up with a large bag of neckties. Ya never know until you ask!
