Machine embroiderers swear by terial magic. It's used in most all the classes at the quilt shop. If you press with the fabric wet with it, it will build up on the iron fast. so use a teflon pressing sheet when ironing.

I used this to cut appliqué with my Silhouette cutter. Fully saturate the fabric, let it dry, then cut. It is as stiff as a board a board! It would be a pain to use on a large amount of fabric since if it isn’t dry before ironing it builds up so bad. It would be useful for machine embroidery too, and easier than using 3-4 passes of starch.

It works great for machine embroidery - I would not waste it on regular sewing projects due to cost alone. If you need a really heavy starch for a project, it is easy to make with cornstarch and water for a fraction of the cost. The HSN price is the best I have seen for Terial

I am allergic to corn so have to wash all new fabric, to get the sizing off, and can't use regular spray starch. I water down the Terial and use in place of starch. You can play around with the ratio but I've used 3:1 and it still works very well.
I found potato vodka with water works as a starch so am planning on trying that next though, to see if I can save a little bit of money.
I also use London Laundry Ironing and Sizing spray, as a light starch/sizing. It's unscented and I've not had any reactions to using it. It's around the same price as Terial but doesn't work as well when watered down. And I can only find it on Amazon. But it doesn't seem to attract pests so it'll work for me.
