Can you use either side or just the one with the grid on it?

I use either side. I like to use the lines on my rulers instead of the lines on the mat for cutting.

So do I-and I'm about to turn my 9 year old well-used 24" x 36" mat over.

I use one side until it is "used up" then flip it over and use the non-gridded side.
