My mom recently bought a new white featherweight- the bobbin winder-was plastic and it broke- I am looking for a way to fix it. I am talking about the "wheel" that goes on the belt.

Any ideas?

Thank you
Sandy

Sorry, still not clear to me

"New" as in brand new - recent model 118 Featherweight II?

Or new to her - an older machine - like a 221?

If it's a plastic piece, I'm going to assume (?) that it's the newer model.

Did you search for a Singer dealer near you - maybe in a Sears store? If not, a sewing machine repair shop should be able to get the part for you.

I'm confused as well b/c the Singer Featherweight doesn't have any plastic parts.

Which is why I think it's the "new" Singer Featherweight II model that came out a few years ago.

Like this:

Seems more like a JemGold from Janome than a FW221 (to me).

OH Thank you= maybe that was a part someone put on there- I will go back to e bay and look for just the winder- I saw some there but hate to pay that price for one and then have to try to make it look right- I have seen black one's one there and mine is black and metal but mom has white/celery featherweight i have not seen one of them for "real" yet so I was wondering- tried to upload picture but no success yet.

Thank you
Sandy

Ah, that makes more sense.

White featherweight = celery, as opposed to the new crappy white featherweights.
The "white" threw us all off.

There is someone here on the board - Lost51 (Billy) - who is an expert on the older featherweights - or so everyone says. ;-) But since I see recommendations daily to contact him, I'm going to pass on the info.

Why don't you PM him and see if he can help you out? There's an older ongoing thread on vintage machines, as well, that you could search out to ask the experts posting there.

Hope your mom gets it fixed.

Is the featherweight machine made out of metal or white plastic? If metal, it is a vintage featherweight (model 221 or 222). If white plastic, it is the newer featherweight.

The bobbin winder on the vintage featherweights has a rubber ring that fits over the metal wheel; is this the "plastic" piece that is broken? If so, you can easily buy a replacement ring. Just remove the old one and slip the new one on -- sort of like a rubber band. Here's a link to the type of rubber ring I am talking about:
