t-Shirt quilt using quilt as you go method???
I have been promising my daughters t-shirt quilts for a long time. I have often heard they are really difficult to quilt with your home machine. the other alternative is to send out to be quilted. Has anyone on the board ever used the quilt as you go method for a t shirt quilt? I was even thinking of cutting squares of shirts same size for top and bottom and make the quilt reversible. Any thoughts or help appreciated.

I've done a few that were not quilted. I did the squares of t-shirts all sewn together(no stabilizer added...just plain t-shirts). After the top was done, I used fleece as a backing. I did it the birthing method. Just sewing around the outside and leaving an opening to flip the quilt right side out. It turned out fine. I think from start to finish it was done in less than 2 hours.

i've done them both ways- i actually like the qayg method best- easier to handle them 1 block at a time- made my husband's step-mom a reversable one & made one of the granddaughters one that was put together (pillow case/birthing) method & tied instead of quilted-with fleece(minkie) backing...just because you are using t-shirts doesn't change the fact you can make it any way you want- still your project to do as you wish. i did still use )fabric stable-easier to cut, sew and living in Northern Michigan we like our quilts warm & lofty- so i always use batting...just my choices- make yours in ways that work for you

thanks so much for the wonderful pictures and comments! I really feel confidant now to move forward. I will definetly use the stabilizer and batting. One daughter lives in sunny California but wants to move back home to chilly Ohio. My younger daughter is proudly serving in the Navy stationed in Maryland. I am excited to get started, will one day post pics!
