Default Need advice on thread color for fmq

Hi, I have a flannel quilt ready to quilt but need advice. The top is multiple colors of blue, rust, and brown. The backing is a small brown print. One of the borders is a tone on tone blue and I would like to quilt it with a blue thread but don't want to use blue in the bobbin. Would it look okay on the top if I used brown thread in the bobbin? How do most of you quilt? Do you always use the same color on the top and in the bobbin?

Thanks in advance for your help!

I use different colors all the time - I think its rare that I don't - I really haven't had any problem with it - sometimes you will see dots of the other color on top or bottom - I think its almost impossible to completely get rid of that - I do find that it will sink in better after washing and drying.

I use different colors top and bobbin often when I quilt. I think it works great.

I usually match my top and bobbin threads so I don't have to watch for pookies.(sp) With the blue and brown being close in colour, you should be good to go.

try out a small sample on scraps. I do a sample area on the sides of my quilts when I long arm. I never know how the thread will act before I start! Once it was a backing, one time a thread. I can make adjustments BEFORE I start on the quiltlI like everyone to play nice before I start the game!

I use Bottom Line thread in the bobbin - that thread matches the back of the quilt. The top thread will match the top - I'm doing a quilt with a red back and red Bottom Line thread. The top has a lot of white and blue and those are the colors I'm using on that side. The top thread doesn't show on the back and the bobbin thread doesn't show on the top so I'm happy!
