I am looking for ideas for placemats, tablerunners to use my Farmer John fruit/veggie fabrics... Does anyone have photos of any small projects they have done with these fabrics? I love these fabrics. I don't want a big quilt though. I want small projects. I like the octagon shaped placemats. I have a couple of patterns but I need to see Photos... Thanks

I would also love to see pictures of quilts and other projects from the fruit/veggie line. I have been collecting it for a year and now need to make something with it.

I like the fruit/veggie pattern done in the canning jar pattern. It is the same pattern as the bug jars for the large jars and a tumbler pattern with lids for the jelly jars. I think a line of those would look great as a table runner and placemats. Sorry, no pictures.

Is there a link for the tumbler pattern with lids? Sounds as if this could be made into potholders? Actually potholders was what I want to do with fabric but need ideas of how to incorporate them into a pattern. Thanks for your help.

I got my patterns from the CQA/ACC Summer 1999 article "Your Summer Canning Done The Quilting Way!" by Judy Villett. Someone will probably chime in with a pattern from the net, I'm sure it's out there somewhere. I will describe the block as best as I can....It is the tumbler block with the narrow part to the bottom, with a 1 inch wide gray lid to match the top of the wide part of the tumbler top. You can also do a small canning jar which is basically a square that you sew a approx. 1&1/4 inch square on each corner and flip out and trim. Measure the top of the square with the corners of background fabric on to determine the width of your 1 inch lid. Sew 2 pieces on either side of the lid to match the side of your jar and your done unless you want to add more background. Hope this helps.

I love the quilts that are jars, sometimes they are on a shelf other times they just float.
I did a quilt with all fruit and veggie fabric by local designer Larisa Key here in CT.

It's called Fat Quarter Frolic.
It uses different sized prints. The larger prints stay large and the smaller ones get cut up.
Imagine a Turning Twenty mixed with a Yellow Brick Road.
The use of the large scale prints kept large makes the impact.
I'll see if I can find the pict of the one I made.

I have a pattern in a book called 5-10-15 + Fat Quarters that I want to use. Have the fabric..now need the time. It is a 51 1'2" x 63 1/2". I am going to use it as a wall hanging in my kitchen. I have cathedral ceiling in there so it is a big blank wall.
