Do you have to use quilting thread in your machine to quilt a quilt or throw or wall hanging?

I purchased a lot of thread from Connecting threads( and love it) but I didn't think before I bought and it is all purpose thread.

I use CT thread for piecing and machine quilting. All thread can be used for quilting. I've wound bobbins with DMC floss and machine quilted with it. It makes beautiful motifs.

Connecting threads is cotton thread and works great to quilt, i have used it on several quilts, however I do prefer the rayon sulky myself, it's truly a choice, whatever you like. I agree with Connie to try a swatch and see what you like.

You can use any thread you like, as long as it is NOT waxed thread, which is not good for your machine.

quilting thread ? Are you thinking of the threads with a finish on them that make them stiffer for hand quilting. I don't know if anyone uses them for machine quilting. don't really think they are what you need. Most quilters use the type of threads available from Connecting Threads for both piecing and machine quilting.

Hand quilting thread should never be used in a machine. It is stiffer than regular thread so that it doesn't tangle as you are working. Your CT thread would be fine for quilting by machine.

i don't think in the 10 years i have been long-arm quilting i have ever spent the $$ on anything specifically called "quilting-thread" i use what thread works for me for that project. I love connecting threads and have been buying all of my threads from them for a while now....the only threads i've ever had problems with are 100% cotton thread...it breaks ever couple inches with my long-arm...anything else works great.

    OH this is wonderful.

I know the lady at my LQS said to be sure to buy machine quilting thread so I was assuming you shouldn't use all purpose thread. But I just can't afford to buy so may different kinds of theaqds.I do use the same thread in the bobbin as on top unless I am useing the invisible thread.

So thank you all you GREAT Ladies for letting me know I am ok!!! I love CONNECTING THREADS!!!! They have a new fabric line out now you might want to check it out.
