I have some redwork kits that call for Sulky thread. I cannot find Sulky thread locally. Can I substitue DMC or Anchor for the Sulky? If so, how may plys sould I use?

    Thank you so much.

I've been using DMC color #321, and using 3 plys on the needle. It seems to be working out well. There is some lack of detail by using 3 plys instead of 2 as in regular embroidery, but stands out well from a distance. I test washed the finished block and color stayed fine.

:D I bought some at the quilt show the weekend before last that was varigated embroidery red by dmc. They had some redwork pictures done up in them and they looked great! I like the darker shade they offer. It really brought the picture to life. I use two strands because you can get more detail into the images.

I like using 2 strands of DMC. That way you can cut an extra long thread, double it over to thread and then pass through the end of the loop to begin. This means no knotting and no loose end to work in at the back.

Thank you. I think I will use the DMC 2 ply you suggested. I have used DMC on all of my embroidery work.
