I was at Joanne's yesterday and I was looking at the price of batting by the yard compared to the bag. Seems like by the yard is more economical but I need to pen to paper on that one. I have been buying by the bag but I have so many projects started I need to save where I can. What do you use?

I purchase by the yard....and save up for when Joann's has a 1/2 off sale to purchase an entire roll.

I buy my batting by the roll. Wow, I had sticker shock last week. I had a coupon but the regular price of W & N had gone up to 14.99 a yd. I need to do some shopping around. Any suggestions? I do alot of quilts for Project Linus. My machine does not like the polyester batting.

Chaeck out fabric depot for your W&N batting. Their price might fit your wallet better.

Most of the time, the sale price or 40% coupon brings them to the same for the equivalent yardage on Warm & Natural for Queen size packaged (=3 yds of 90 wide). They did have a 1 day sale yesterday on the packaged for 12.99. I didn't get there to pick up any, but that is a good deal compared to the $21 or so I usually get it for.

I used Dream Green for my last one and really liked it. Costs $14.99 for the twin size and saves bottles going into landfills.

By the yard is almost always less expensive if your quilt is not wider than the roll. However, unless you are using it right away, storage is a problem if you live in a small space or have a small space to store. It's much easier for me to buy packaged batting and store it on top of a bookshelf. It's there when I need it.

I use Dream Green and I really like it. I purchased a roll some time ago and am still working my way through it. FYI Quiltbug has rolls on sale for 20% off. You can check their website - they carry a lot of different battings - and figure for yourself the comparative costs. Some of it, of course, depends on what size you need. 60" wide does fine for my purposes. Here's the website:

Thanks for the info on Green Dream, you two. I've seen it but had wondered how it needles. Two thumbs up, so maybe I'll try it out after all.

Oh, and you can always piece your battings together if needed. Just use a wide zig-zag stitch.

I purchase Warm and Natural by the bolt and use a 50% off coupon. It's alot cheaper than buying the bags or by the yard of any batting and IMHO a better quality than others.
