Default Threads will not release

My machine has become annoying!!! Yep!!! Every time I stop sewing, raise the pressure foot there is no longer enough slack in the thread to pull the fabric out without going up to the wheel and wiggling it back and forth. Is there an easy fix for me to do or is it a 'timing' thing that needs repair. It takes so much time to wiggle it back and forth. Ugg

Too much tension? What thread are you using? Try to loosen the tension
wheel a bit and see if it helps.

What type of machine do you have?? Have you had it in for servicing? Most machines, but not all need to be serviced like a car.

Do you make sure the thread take-up lever is all the way up before you pull on the thread?

this will happen when the take up lever is not in the up position that is when the thread is released from the tension

I don't know how to loosen the 'tension wheel', have never done that before, although this sounds like it may solve the problem. I have used various different threads in both top and bobbin. Had it in for servicing about 5 months ago. This started happening about a month after that. Also, I use the needle down position, when I stop sewing, hit the button for the needle up - shouldn't that automatically put the take up lever all the way up?

This happens to me on my newer machines. The take up lever stops before up all the way. I have to be sure and push it all the way. My older machines the levers snap up with spring action upon raising it slightly. Take a look inside and see if the lever has become loose.

What machine do you have? Do you have a manual? Check this diagram.

Do you see anything that looks like the tension control? It usually has
numbers 0 to 9. Set it between 4 and 5 and see if it helps. Then you can
move it back up or down until your stitches look right.

When I had the problem it was the needle which was not going all the way up the shaft. I just hand turned the wheel putting it in the correct place. I switched machine off at end of sewing session and next day it was gone. Never had a problem since.
