I am wanting some info on fusible bias tape . I want to make my own . What I want to know is : even with fabric cut on the bias , will adding fusible make it stiff and hard to work with ? I printed a disney picture on treated fabric and needs to have strips added to cover where it is joined . I did a poster print . I just haven't tried fusible bias tape yet . Any help you can give me will be helpful .

Hi Annie,

i am in the process of making a stained glass appliqué. I asked the lady in my LQS who does beautiful work what she uses and she said NOT the fusible because it's so stiff. The ready made bias is expensive so she recommended a gadget made by Clover which you feed your strip of fabric through that folds it and you press with the iron as you go; if you want to do fusible, you can buy tape which fits inside the gadget; i haven't used it yet so can't say how I find it! :D Here's a link http://www.joann.com/joann/catalog.j...PRODID=prd2791

I'm just using the gadget now! It's going pretty well - you have to really slowly with the iron, I'm then winding the tape round a tube and pinning it on to 'set' the crease!

What do you use to make the tape?

I know how to cut my own bias. I was wondering if anyone "cut down" a purchased wider premade bias tape............

example: 1/2 inch double fold bias tape cut in half lengthwise so 3 yards becomes six yards

Granted, this is another of my brainstorms :D

I'm just using plain black cotton fabric. If you cut ready made tape lengthwise, your problem would be you'd only have a fold on one side. I can really vouch for the gadget, it works really well; The advantage as well is you can use any colour fabric and your not tied to the ready made colour range. It also will work out cheaper in the long run! :D
