Sewing with 1.5" pieces is everyday sewing for me. Making my Dear Jane quilt in the late 90's cured me of worrying about piece size. This is the border on one of my Kudzu quilt, all 1.5" pieces (1" finished) Fun! and did I say starch? It's fun!

There are many things that help but the 2 that worked the best for me is number 1. press your seams open and no. 2 use Mary Ellen Best Press.

Reading through some other tips, yes, I use Aurafil thread and it sure makes a difference.
