I have made several that size that works on a queen bed. Most mattresses are so much higher than they used to be.

I made a queen size, with extra hanging over the side of the bed - and used Warm & Natural batting. It sits in a closet waiting to be cut down because it is SO heavy. Please take the weight into consideration when deciding on the size of your quilt.

I made one 96" x 110" for my queen bed to make sure it fit the depth of the mattress with a couple inches to spare. It just covers the depth if I make sure it's centered on the width of the bed perfectly. I forgot to factor in the shrinkage and that ended up being 3.5" of the width. The length is perfect for tucking under and over the pillow. If she just wants to lay her pillows on top it still works because she can just fold any excess quilt under itself at the top before she puts the pillows on.

I think that is a good size, especially since she wants a queen size bed in the future. That size will work on a full bed, with enough quilt to pull over the pillows, and it's a great size for a queen bed. I just made our DGD a quilt for her bed and gave it to her at Christmas. Originally I was told she was going to be moving to a twin size bed, however, that changed and she now has a full size bed. Thankfully, I had made the quilt larger than a twin, and I'm so glad because after making the quilt top with lots of appliques, hearts, flowers, butterflies, pinwheels, etc., they changed the bed size and I'd had surgery for a torn rotator cuff, so I couldn't quilt it until a couple months before Christmas, but I'm so glad that I made the quilt larger. To me bigger is better, and even if your sister doesn't get the larger bed for a while, she can still use the quilt.

I just finished a 90x90 quilt for my queen size bed and to tell you the truth I wish it were a bit wider and longer...even if I had to piece in some batting to finish it! Next one for my bed will be100x100. Rosie if you ever see any books by Sharyn Craig or Ginny Beyers Patchwork book, they are EXCELLENT for helping hand draft patterns. I am spoiled now by EQ7, but I used to do it by hand

Your new draft looks excellent if you're using 10" blocks - good size, and the stripe should fall in a good place (visible below the pillow if it's at the top, or like a bed runner at the bottom). Nice job of drafting!

90 x 110 would be more like a spread on a queen sized bed, so it works very well.

I like my quilt to cover the top of the bedskirt by about three inches - and to come up even with the top of the mattress.

We put the pillows on top of the quilt during the day time.

I like the quilt to come even with the sheets by the head of the bed. It feels weird to have uneven layers on me.

I have a queen with an 18" deep mattress, so I use a 96 x 96 quilt to get
the overhang I need.
I would "see" your sister's bed with a tape measure, or if it's a surprise,
can you find out what brand it is?
(haven't you been, lol, thinking of buying a bed?)
