    Default Wonder cut ruler?

    Hi-

I'm breaking out my wondercut ruler and was wondering if anyone can help me? I want to use the ruler to cut down on cutting time and stitching time when using patterns. My question is, when using the wondercut ruler, its stating that the block is "unfinished" so what does that mean? How can I use this ruler with the current patterns I have bought when they call for "finished?"

A finished block is 1/2" smaller in each direction than an unfinished block, since you will have 1/4" seam allowance all around. Are you trying to make HST's? Be aware that if you cut strips on the grain for the HST's and use the wondercut ruler, then the edges of your HST will be on the bias, which is not generally a good thing.

'Unfinished' size is the size block/strip we start with, 'finished' is the size that you see when your project is complete.

If you start with 2.5 inch strip and make a 4 patch, the patches will be 2 inches when finished in your project.

Most patterns tell you to cut the 'unfinished' size.

Good luck! I love my wonder cut ruler---saves lots of time!
