I bought one of those new iron mats and it works like a charm.

Same here, and I share pieces with my quilting buddies.

There is a new product out called "Uglu" I take a small piece and put it under my foot pedal where I want it to stay. when u want to move it, just pull the end of the uglu and it pulls up clean, not hurting the floor.

I have vinyl flooring and have tried the shelf liner and mouse pad and it STILL wanders, The silicone hot pad might be an idea. I don't think I am coordinated enough to use the start/stop button on the Janome though might get used to it - after I had to do a lot of 'unsewing'. (I still catch myself trying to use the knee lift for power and how many hundred years has it been since I used a machine that ran that way?) Short of nailing it to the floor, I have no other ideas.

Duct tape would work...

Piece of shelving liner under the foot pedal and sew barefoot. I think my foot keeping the pedal from sliding and my shoe helped it to slide.
