I am now finally getting ready to sew my TAW quilt. I had my strips cut out and my son became very ill and is still in the hospital/physical rehab since March 21st however he is improving.
My question is I am now ready to sew my strips together and on Row A is says to cut 8 4 1/2 inch squares. Is that all I cut out for Row A I am a little confused as I have only made quilts that have little squares and rectangles. I hope I don't sound too dense. (duh). I am using the Eleanor Burns pattern. I was wondering do I make 8 sets of row A I just need a little help here.
I hope you can understand what I am trying to ask here as I don't know if I can myself . I just need someone to esplain what I am suppose to be doing!!!!!!!!!!!.
thanks for any help at all

It's really not hard. You cut your strips and arrange them how they'll go in the block, each row will be a different arrangement of the colors, and so on. If I'm not making myself clear just email me back with your phone number and I'll call and try to explain it better.

I found Elanor Burns book a bit confusing. what I had my student do is color a graph on graph paper of the colors and we sewed one row at a time. Much quicker and easier to understand than to sew and rip out and resew blocks. What I did was cut a little piece of each fabric and taped it on a chart to represent each color in the Trip around the world. Usually five colors and then mark them with a different color crayon. Then color out the chart on the graph paper and refer to it as you sew the blocks. It is sooooooooo much easier to follow. In fact my student liked it so well I think she is doing her 3rd or 4th trip around the world. Any more questions .I'll be happy to try to help. Bernadette

My method of doing the Trip Around the World would sound confusing, but actually worked very well for me.
Instead of sewing together all the strips, (say there are 8 colors) then cutting, I would sew sets of 3 and 4 and alternate through the colors. When I was ready for a particular section, I did not have to remove stitching. I had them laid out on my cutting table and it worked well for me.
I made 3 Standard size and one Queen size quilts using this method and have another one planned.

Thanks for all your input on the TAW quilt I also find Eleanor Burns pattern
a little confusing but I am going real slow on it and hopefully it will turj out.
Also thank you for all your concern regarding my son he is now doing better and is eating 100% of his food. We are planning on leaving Thursday and go to visit him I talked with him yesterday and he sounded good. It has been a long haul but hopefully we are on the mend.
thanks again.
