Vburr I did not see that store but sure would have loved to. I was not into quilting then so missed out on all the good cloth stores. I did watch them making a quilt. I bought a couple pcs of furniture that was hand made that I wanted.

There are many motels/b&b's along Route 30 in Lancaster, a highway with restaurants, FABRIC SHOPS, tourist attractions, etc. There are several side roads north (about 3 miles) to Rte 340 and the towns of Intercourse, Bird-In-Hand, etc. Many motels along those side roads and a few on 340. It's not a huge area, these are central to what you probably want. Downtown Lancaster isn't Amish country. Very nice, but it's a city, not "tourist-y". Someone recommended Strasburg, a short ride south from Rte 30 and worth spending some time there. You'll get lots of recommendations for fabric/quilt shops but here's a buffet you should make note of - Diener's (yes, on Rte 30), not one of the big tourist spots, lots of locals eat there. Great food, all home cooked, all you can eat, around $10, and NEXT DOOR TO A LARGE GIFT SHOP WITH A SECOND FLOOR QUILTER'S PARADISE. Fabrics, books, anything you want. You can find these easily by looking for a large working windmill on the west side of Rte 30. Have a great time!

Thank you all so much for info. I am taking note of all these places to visit and getting so excited now. I think our dates are going to be 17th May until 30th May. I think we will have to hire a car so probably get to see some of the sites as well.We don't have really big fabric shops so that is one thing I am looking forward to.

I stayed at the Cork Factory Hotel in Lancaster. Very, very nice place. And yes, that is the name of the hotel, as it is a restored cork factory!!

What is there for the husband to do while the wife shops for fabric?!!! My girlfriend and her husband want us to go up to the Lancaster area for a few days, but we need to keep the guys busy. Do we need two cars?

For a few days you might need two cars if the Hubby's don't want to do any of the shops and you want to explore the shops futher out in the country. But there are also antique/misc shops out there too. Maybe you could alternate stops.
But at Kitchen Kettle there are a few shops they maybe interesed in and two or three fabric shops all within walking distance. There is a weapons museum for one, may be good for an hour or so. I guess it might depend on thier interests.
Guess I'm pretty lucky, DH will go to some of the shops with me and sometimes he sits on a bench and strikes up a conversation with other husbands waiting for thier wives or I'll pick a place that we pass and I think he might enjoy.
