MIMISTUTZ I am very lucky as my hubby will be interested in going round shops with me. He will also enjoy sitting having a chat with some of the other husbands or the locals as I hope this will be a holiday for him as well. Hope the weather is fine as I want to take as few clothes as possible to leave room for fabric on the way back lol. I am really enjoying all the feedback from you kind folks and taking notes. Been looking on the www you recommended and taking it all in. Thank you again.

Since you will be flying home, be sure to add a couple boxes (folded up) to the bottom of the suitcase and some strong tape. Then you send it home. That is what I do when I go over seas. Even on tour, our bus drivers have always been wonderful to drop me off at the post office to mail things. By the time I get home, the packages are coming. Can get a lot more things home that way.

We found out that it's more economical to bring an extra suitcase and pay the $50 or so for the extra luggage than to mail packages back overseas. Especially when the packages are heavy. This is what a group did when they were taking supplies to a special school in Europe. So much cheaper to use a suitcase and take it with you!

THere are so many B&B, motels, etc. to stay in, and the best advise is not to stay directly in Lancaster, but Intercourse is a great little town. So many restaurants and places to see, you wont have any problems finding things to keep you busy. Also goling before the Memorial Weekend is smart, as the availability of B&B and motels are so numeorus and there are always vacancies.

I think I'm missing something here but just not quite sure what it is. I heard about Obie's and went there last Wed. My friend and I walked in, walked to the back of the store and quickly left as she almost got killed when a whole stack of bolts fell down right beside her. We hadn't touched a thing. I can't shop in something that is so disorganzied. What do you do if you want a bolt that is on the bottom of the pile?

In our search for Obie's we came across Goodville Fabric Outlet just a short way down the road. Have you been there? It has been in business 2 1/2 years. It is a factory outlet store. There is a fair amount of quilting fabrics and notions and thousands of bolts of fabric, some clothing and notions for unbelievable prices. Got a great deal on flannel which was the main purpose of my trip this time. If anyone goes to Millersburg, Ohio to the Amish country they have a sister store called Zincks Outlet. We were in Millersburg on Fri of last week but just didn't have the extra time to stop. I will on our next journey there.

This is Obie's

Here is an article about Obies that might help explain the store. When we were there, a wall of bolts had fallen to the floor sometime before we arrived and someone was trying to fix it. Unfortunately for me (or fortunately) it was the blue fabric - and I love blue! I wouldn't walk down that aisle. I probably would have gotten lost in the blues, and many $$ later, my husband would have been loading up the car!

Obies is Great! ! I have been there several times and your right, they know what they have and where. Just ask. I was looking for some fabric that had "pool" theme as in pool table (not swimming) They didn't have any left, but had in the past and they told be the maker and their website right off the top of their head and I found it. The only thing I found is, it is VERY warm in the summer, unless it was just the day I was there. I have been to the outlet closeby too, but always have to stop at both when I'm in that area. Goods "department store", just up the road by ShadyMaple, has a good bit of fabric too, especially since they remodeled.

all you have to do is ask for help and they will be happy to get it for you. they do have a system of organization there you just have to understand it

Yes we go to Goods after a visit to the Shady Maple. Weaver General Store has good flat folds for under $3 a yard. I even found a Vera Bradley print there one time.

[quote=CathieB]What is there for the husband to do while the wife shops for fabric?!!!

Send the men down to Strasburg. There are a few things "male" oriented, like the train museum. A cute place to stop for lunch is the Red Caboose Dining Car. It's a real train car that is a diner. Though it has a limited menu it is cute & they actually "jolt" the car a few times so you feel like you're riding on the train, not just sitting in the depot. There's another place (the name escapes me right now) that has real train engines on display. Everywhere in the area are tons of "what to see" brochures where one can find lots of places for men to visit. In one of the shopping areas - either Tangler Outlets or Rockvale Outlets - there is a Black & Decker store & a B&D outlet store. That will keep them entertained for a while.
