my friends just returned from Egypt. she has a celiacs disease and could not fiind much that she could eat. glad she brought her own oatmeal. she said they( Chefs)had no knowledge of what contained flour. also they had 2 armed guards with them on the bus they toured on. She was scared. so be very careful. and be aware of your surroundings. Egypt was on her bucket list.

I would check with customs before taking fabric anywhere. There may be duties you'll have to apy and it may not be worth it.Just a suggestion.

I don't know if it's still this way, but the Egyptians are always looking for glass bugle beads. I remember back in the day (this was over 20 years ago) my bellydancing teacher told me you could go to Egypt with a few kilos of beads and have a family of women string them into a costume for basically the price of a few loaves of bread. If you have the room/weight to take beads to trade, you may do very well. (and you can get these kinds of beads by the kilo in the bead district in Manhattan - I don't know where else, or where you're from)

The Israelis always have incredible quilts at International so they must have great fabric stores or at the outdoor stands.
There prices are much higher than ours or were last year.$18.-22. per metre. We went on to China and found fantastic fabrics, left my clothes and filled my suitcases with fabric, cashmere sweaters, silk undies and wore my pearls back and went right thru customs. Even their prices are higher now. It was fairly safe, we had guards on the buses but they were nice and chatted with us. Have a ball and God speed.
