I think I got the topic right. How often do you take your machines in for a tune up? I don't have a warrenty on my machine so I was wondering how often do you do this? I have had my machine now for 2 years this November. It seems to be doing ok and the book says that I don't have to oil it.

My old Pfaff I used to take in every 2 years until the last 2 years I used it and then I was on it so much I took it in every year. My Bernina I've had it only 1 1/2 years and have had it cleaned twice. I will probably take it in yearly because I use it so much and it being computerized and all. I also do not have a warranty on it.

If you have a knowledgeable, reputable dealer, that is where you should go for information. Or, if you know a good repair shop you can also get answers there. I don't think sewing machines need regular tuning up. They need to be taken care of with regular cleaning and maintenance as shown in your manual. When you use your machine all the time, you become tuned-in to its performance and if something seems amiss, take it in for checking. Otherwise, save your money.

I'm basing this on the experience of using the same machine for nearly 30 years without servicing. I'm also thinking of tools in my husband's shop. His machinery is just as intricate as my machine and it operates in a dusty environment without any more than regular maintenance for years.

Maybe you have a machine that needs tune-ups, and your dealer will be able to tell you that.

I take mine in once a year for a good cleaning and grease job. If I use it a lot, I take it twice a year.

I keep it as clean as I can with my vaccume attachment for sewinging machines and I oil it regularly too.
