Default Two quilts - 1 fat eighth bundle / 2 charm packs - Can it be done?

Here's my challenge: I need to make two lap quilts (around 60" x 72"). One quilt will use a fat eighth bundle of the "Lovely" fabric from Moda. The other quilt will use 2 charm packs of the "Evening Mist" fabric from Moda. I have what I need for the binding and back and enough assorted fabrics from my "stash" to supplement each quilt (I hope). Any suggestions for what type of quilts I should make? I've never worked with fat eighths before and have only used charm packs in one quilt so I'm open to any suggestions! Thanks!!!

I don't know how many fat 8ths are in a pack, but I thought a charm pack was 42 5" squares. Two of those would be 2*42*5*5 = 2100 square inches, while the quilt you want to make is 60x72=4320 square inches. You will wind up with more of your supplemental stash fabric in the quilt than charm fabric, not that it's a problem, but you should be aware of that because it might influence the type of pattern and/or the choice of stash fabric.

So, how many fat 8ths are in a pack? I looked on several sites and the amount seemed to vary.

Since you need twice as many charms as you have to make the quilt you might consider making a 4 patch of the charms and using your fabric as a block the same size EX if a 4 patch is 9.5" then you would make 9.5" squares whether of a solid piece or a pattern. I would think if you want to highlight the charm pack the 9.5" solid square or maybe a log cabin block or both could be use.d

With the fat eighths, I would go for a Wickedly Easy quilt - http://www.byannie.com/free-patterns/ - scroll down a little bit. It really is wickedly easy and if there's enough contrast in your fabrics, the top just sparkles. You can't figure out in a glance how it's made.

For the charm packs, I would either frame each charm with strips or squares, or I would go with a snowball quilt.

There are 40 pieces in this fat eighth bundle. I'm impressed with your math! I didn't even think to do that! Boy do I have a lot to learn!!! :/

I think I'll try that Wickedly Easy Quilt pattern with the fat eighths bundle I have! Might turn out kinda cute!

The two charm packs I have (Evening Mist) I'm not totally in love with the print so I don't know about a snowball quilt. Can you make a strip quilt with charm packs? I've never made one of those. I don't know . . . that would probably be too dark with this Evening Mist. But the fabric is "dark" so what am I expecting??? Hmmm . . .

Yes, this is a really dark line - I had a snowball pattern I was working on, so I put the Evening Mist into it to see what it looks like. It's very subdued and quiet. You would need to buy some yardage of a couple of the fabrics to use for the alternate "snowball" blocks, borders and binding for this one - it's 61 x 70 and takes 72 charm squares. Let me know if you need the yardage and cutting charts and I'll put them up for you.
