I also use shades of grey in piecing, hand applique and quilting. I find I like the way the grey blends with almost all fabrics. I also wind several bobbins in the color I am using. Thanks for a great thread! Luann in CT

I read that too. I think it was a national quilt teacher that was being quoted. I always use only neutral colors to piece now. Makes it a a whole lot easier and faster.

I save the colors for applique, and use tans, greys, kahki, taupes for piecing.

Never heard of it. I use white or black on dark fabric.

Hmm, I've always used color and now that I'm thinking about it, it makes sense to use gray or white or some other neutral color instead and use the colored thread for the actual quilting. Thanks

Funny, I was told to use chambray, so most of the time that is what I have done. But think I'll start using up all the different colors of thread used in clothing construction over the years and empty out a slew of bobbins :>)

I use mostly cream or ecru, but do use dark thread with black. Here is a tip: don't use black thread on black fabric, use dark blue or dark gray. That way if you have to rip, you won't go blind! I always use Bottom Line or So Fine, both by Superior Threads, because the 50 and 60 wt thread allows for a more accurate seam allowance

I read a post months back where someone use either grey thread or lavendar thread for piecing. I like the grey thread idea and I have grey thread in my serger.
