My mother was on vacation this past September and came across a quilt block painted on the side of a barn in either Pennsylvania or New York (they were heading to Vermont). Underneath the square on the barn was Lazy Man's Rest. It was red and white. She thought she got a picture of it but on review of her vacation photos she came up blank. I was wondering if anyone is familiar with the pattern? I have entered is in many different searches and have found nothing. Any help would be great, thanks!

Could Lazy Man's Rest be the name of the farm? Maybe you could research quilt trails in those states and ask.

I'd guess it was the farm name. We have some not far from Lexington called Seldom Rest, and Seldom work. That is on ther barn and a sign on another.

Some of the barns had only the squares painted on them while others had name underneath, the other patterns were familiar and had familiar names. It could be the name of the farm or it could be the name of the pattern.

Maybe 'rest' is short for restaurant?

We passed that barn in Ohio, on route 36, just east of Urbana, Ohio on Route 36. Wonder if it is the same barn your mother spotted? My wife and daughte,r who are quilters. were with me and my daughter did some research on the net and discovered that this barn may have been a stop on the Underground Railroad. The barn had a false cloor for hiding the slaves. Hope this helps. The barn might be listed on a tour of barns with quilt pattern. Perhaps you were looking in the wrong state. Anyway, hope this helps.

I have to say the people on this board can find anything, and find it fast to boot. Once in a while I can even find someting for someone, LOL.
