I'm using a star pattern from EQ6, complete with "Y" seams. I used double sided tape to tape the paper to plastic templar. How do I keep these from sliding as I am cutting. Would it be better to just use the paper and pin to the fabric with the flat flower pins? Help, need your highly valued opinions.

I use that basting spray on the back,,, just a light spray keeps them in place and can be moved over and over

Good idea-so would you use spray holding the papers to "Grandmother's Flower Garden" hexagons (2") as well or is it not necessary. Never made one before and I am starting one now. I have been cutting hexagon papers from all the magazine renewal/subscription forms inserted in magazines that I have been saving.

Another suggestion is to cut the template from sandpaper.. the sandpaper side keeps the template from sliding when cutting....

if you are using 'english paper piecing' method, the edges are turned and basted so you wont need the spray.
you have alot of ambition! I would never attempt that pattern....... you go girl!!!

Actually, I am only doing it because I am leaving for overseas next month for 6-8 weeks and will go NUTS if I don't have a project to work on-I thought that one uses the least amount of tools/notions and will be really portable. I think I should only need the papers, the fabrics cut into hexagons, a few needles, and thread. It will probably be a UFO forever, but at least it is something I can pick up and go with, leaving my other quilts to work on at home that aren't portable. Hope I thought this thru enough!!
