Hi all. I would like to make a backing for granddaughter's twin quilt using leftover fabric from the quilt {It's a tossed 9 patch}. My question is, how big would I cut the squares to sew together for the backing? Thanks in advance for all your wonderful help and I hope you all have a happy quilting day!

You could make the patches any size you want or the same as you made the front. It just makes a nice reversible quilt.

Any size. I did one using 10.5" squares. The 10" finished size made it easy to calculate how many I needed.

you could always make a strip quilt on backing too!! Be sure to show pictures of front and back when done thanks cheryl :thumbup:

I try to go larger rather than smaller so there aren't as many seams on the back as on the front. But I FMQ on a domestic machine and try not to have too much bulk.

You do have to consider what quilting pattern you will use. If you usually follow the lines of the blocks on the front, it might look awkward on the back....but that's okay!

But I agree...anything goes!

Personally, I would prefer the larger the better, less seams to quilt over.

I also prefer larger pieces, not as many double layers of seams to have to quilt through. :D:D:D
