Default Virtual Quilting Weekend -- April 14-16, 2017

Welcome to Virtual Quilting Weekend. This will be a "make progress on WIPs" and "catch-up" weekend for me. I just turned in three projects for a local quilt exhibition yesterday so haven't been working on other things. I have a few BOMs blocks to get done before end of month too.

For newbies, VQW is when we quilt "together" over the weekend and share what we're working on and the progress we're making. We encourage and support each other, pictures are welcomed! Many times we discover new projects we must make ourselves.

Any questions, please ask! Next VQW is May 26-29.

Yea! Been looking forward to this.

I have today off, and took yesterday and Monday off too - just to play and get caught up. DH and I live far away from any family, so we won't be doing anything family gathering stuff either. That is kind of a drag as I love cooking large meals - and deserts!

I've been working on the Fire Island Hosta pattern for 3-4 weeks now. So I'll be working on that off and on, with the main hope of getting some floppies quilted. Took the time to count, and though many are throw/wall hanging size, I've got about 30 waiting.

I'm also spending time going through my sewing machine collection - got too many machines and have been decided what needs to be rehomed and moving them to a different building. I had several under the LA, so now I'll have room to move some totes there and get them out from under foot.

I have one more project I really want to experiment with - I bought a Sashiko machine and it's still sitting in the box. I have a few smaller floppies I think would be great for that. I wanted to do some domestic machine quilting, but with the LA I'm not real interested in doing regular stuff. So this gives me another type of quilting to learn and play with.

I'm finishing a baby quilt that just needs to have the binding stitched down then washed. Will post a picture when I get done later today.

Also am working on a Frozen panel quilt for DGD. Hope to finish the quilting on the panel and then on to the binding.

I'm in! I have borders to put on my Bonnie Hunter MQ. Then I want to finish up a wall hanging and hopefully start another baby quilt. We don't have much planned for this weekend, so hopefully I can get a lot done between helping DH mod out his truck exhaust! (He wants it LOUD)

I'm going to work on a block-of-the-month for the guild I visited last week.

I'm also machine quilting a large scrappy quilt. I'm using this quilt as practice for the Westalee rulers and ruler foot. I'm doing the whole quilt with the clam shell ruler. I'm trying to focus on not letting the ruler slid and paying attention to how I have the ruler lined up.

Oh good! I just got some retreat gifties to make last night.... 19 fabric covers for a small journal... and 20 rotary cutter cases.... I need to figure out the pattern and then get stitching! (well maybe not all of them today ) I also enjoy seeing everyone's projects as they work along on them.

I hope to finish the guild BOM top. I have to take off and re-sew one of the floating borders (got ruffles) and then add the pieced border. After that it's UFO time but we still have to do our taxes too. sigh!

Still working on my "Pick Up Sticks" wall hanging. Just have one block to go and the pebbles are turning out nicely.
Continue to be at a loss as to how to quilt to sashing and borders, however.....I even went through all 500 of Leah Day's great free motion options and didn't find anything that struck me! Onwards and upwards!

I also hope to purchase fabrics this weekend for a Ribbon Box quilt in teals and purples. http://cloud9fabrics.com/make-sew-ribbon-box-quilt/
