Default is it possible to make a quilt label with a pen?

I only have an ink jet printer at our home. My laser is up north. I would like to make a label for a quilt I am making and was wondering if there was some type of pen I could use to write the label and then sew it on. I would like it to be washable and last!
    Thanks

I use a black Pigma pen to do my labels. It holds up with washing.

There are several brands of ink-jet printable fabric; or handwrite with permanent markers.

All of my labels are hand-written. I've never had a problem. The local quilt shop should have a good selection of pens.

Writing done in a black pigma pen and then heat set holds up well.

I've used pigma pens to make labels quite a bit. I have them in several colors. I'll do up the label on my computer and print it out, then use a light table (or window) and put the print under the fabric and use that as a guide to get a very nice label.

I was under the impression that an ink jet printer was what you need to print on fabric. But there are several type o f pens that are permanent on fabric, especially if they are heat set.

    Default Labels with pens

Pigma or Pentel extra fine pens work well. Back the material that you want to use for the label with Steam-A-Seam light or some other light weight interfacing for ease of writing. Use a Frixion pen to mark guidelines for your words on the label. After you are finished with the lettering use a steam iron held above the Frixion lines to remove them. Do a test label first.

Sharpie extra fine pens also work well.

Yes! I did an album quilt for my parent's 50th a long time ago and all the signatures and sentiments are vivid today.
