Oh, that gets to me too! I made an Art Quilt for a challenge last year, that's about the size of a full bed. Took 6 months to create. This was never intended to go on a bed, but on my wall. Someone referred to it as my blanket and at first I didn't know what they were talking about. I won first place, by the way in the challenge.
To me a quilt is anything (whether intended to go on a bed or a wall) that is made from pieces of fabric or one whole piece, layered with batting of some sort or not and a backing layer , which also can be pieced or not. Some sort of stitching or ties thru all layers, holds the batting from shifting.

But it's okay with me if my grandbabies refer to their quilts as blankies!

Maybe quilted blanket?

I mad something a few years ago that defied definition - I liked the fabric of a Ikea light weight duvet cover so much I decided to make a ?? out of it - took it apart, drew the threads to square it, put the very most lightweight bat I could find in the middle, picked apart and squared another plain muslin duvet cover for backing and folded the printed fabric over muslin in a kind of envelope, basted the lot. THEN because it shifted so much I couldn't machine quilt it!! So I'm still at the hand hand quilting!! I made it with a very tall person in mind - it took ages to get the envelope perfectly square and it's taking ages to quilt - am just outlining the print. Its quite simple and cute, very light for a medium cool summer night. I decided it isn't quite a quilt but too much of a quilt to be just a coverlet, so I call it a 'quiltlet', Anyhow, it feels great, all pure cotton, even the thread.

I call it a quilt if it's on my bed and a wallhanging if on the wall, table runner if on the table, etc, etc, but I am not offended if you call everything you quilted a quilt. I would hate it if we were all the same. How boring would we be and then, think of this, if we were all the same we wouldn't need our wonderful board to discuss our different things.

True, and fun! I love hearing the verbal ideas and the art expressions that come out as quilts, all so different and beautiful.
