Poor shoe selection, very few un-trendy clothes, even fewer large-size clothes, a mere smattering of dresses...thank goodness I can sew! In our rural area, though, it's either them, drive an extra 15 miles or so and pay more, or go to the little stores with only half the stuff we need at a much higher price. Some of us they have over a barrel, and they know it.

Our WM still has a few fabrics but I went there last night to get some embordery floss and they no longer carry it. It seems that all of our wm in this area are no longer have it either. Now I have to drive 60 miles to go to Hobby Lobby or JoAnns for a 20 cent pack of floss. Man I really hate the new wm.

Considering the cost of gas, shipping for an online purchase seems more than reasonable!

:? Yea Like we have that many Parties but We do Buy Lots of Fabrics!!!! wm says we don't sew anymore OH????? And that's Why the line at the Fabrics Dept is sooooo LONG Cause we don't sew and quilt anymore??? OH really ask OUR DEAR HUSBANDS!!!! WM You don't know everything even if it is in your own face!!!

I read somewhere that one of their new management team members is from Target and that their goal is to be more upscale like Target and those kinds of stores. I think they forget not all of us want, need, or can afford that. They also forget that there are people out there who still sew and craft and do things like that and that we like being able to go to one place and get our things, and, if you live in the boonies like I do, not having to drive 40 miles to get to a fabric store or pay $7 and up for shipping is a nice thing. I think they're going to lose a lot of customers when this all comes down. If it comes to it, I'll alter my budget somehow and do my food and medication and craft shopping in other places, though it might be tough.

I agree, I live out in what people tend to call "God's Country". From my house to get to the closest and cheapest fabric store (walmart) is about 45 minutes. I also do all of my grocery shopping there too at the same time. I don't get to go over there very often b/c of school, work, etc., so when I do go, I buy alot of fabric. It is the cheapest I have found and it is so handy. I completely understand what you mean. If this walmart takes out their fabric, I will also change where I shop and alter my budget to be able to go somewhere else. There is a Walmart about an hour and 15 minutes away that is starting to sell more food but it isn't a super walmart yet, their goal is to turn it into one, but they haven't. As for the fabric, this Walmart is supposed to be one of the "ones" that is keeping their fabric, however, there isn't a large selection of material. Everytime I've been there, I haven't found the type of material I am looking for. Whereas, most of the time the other one does. There is a local woman that is supposed to be opening a quilt shop here in Sutton, which is like 15-20 min from my house. If her prices aren't too much higher than Wal-Mart and it would equal out in gas, I will stick to shopping there. Wal-Mart is definitely going to lose alot of customers when they get rid of all of their fabric departments.

I just emailed them a 2nd time. Got an auto response thing from the 1st one, but no one ever contacted me personally. So I will try again. Went to the fabric store yesterday and came out $40/poorer. I know that WM won't always carry things like what I jsut bought (oriental prints) but I don't always use them in my projects. I needed 1 or 2 pieces and came out with 4. Thats the kind of thing that WM doesn't realize they will be missing out on. I will shop for groceries wherever I can find the best price and if they take the fabrics out of WM, we may have to eat more beans and rice cause I'd hate to have to shop there after they took out the fabric dept. I may have to eat my words, but that is how I feel right now.

It is your fabric department that got me started in quilting, I love the quilt of the months, and I have to say that I probably couldn't afford to quilt if I had to go to the Quilt Shops. I am a beginner quilter, but have extensive sewing background. I once asked if I could do your quilt of the month for the stores to show, which in turn would sell more quilt of the months. I saw a show on Walmart factories in other countries the other day. :(

Suffice it to say after seeing the conditions these workers live in, and the rate of pay (between $0.13 an HOUR and $8 a day) they pay their employees, I will be shopping at other stores as often as I can, and scrimping in other areas so that we can eat and still pay the bills.

I remember when Sam Walton was still alive and the stores all had the signs on top of the rounds that said "Made in the USA," and now less than 10% of their non-food merchandise is produced in this country. I can't in good conscience pay less for something at the expense of people in other countries who are making less in a day than most workers here at McDonald's earn flipping burgers.

There are a few things I still need to get there until I can find them in other places but as soon as I locate another place to purchase them, I will. It embarrasses me to think that I've been shopping in a place that is so profit-oriented it will outsource its products so that it makes more money, all the while sacrificing quality and integrity. :oops:

:? Yea Walmart and my Friends got me quilting in the first place soooo Now they take away the Fabric and Joanne's is bought out by WM??? I'd have to go to .com and I WON'T!!!! I spent years collecting stuff and my best friend finally says I don't know about you but I'm gonna start making Something out of this stuff{Our Stashes} So we began and continue to add to the stash til WM goes away but AHAH!! I/We got Catalogs and the internet,HeeHee!!!!
