Default Want to learn needle-turned applique

I'd like to learn needle-turned applique (thanks for the post under "Tutorials") and would like to know what's an easy, doable pattern for a newbie. I've done fusing and machine stitched applique, but have been a little afraid of doing the turned under variety. I'm in love with Affairs of the Heart, but think that taking on 36 blocks would be a bit much for me right now. Please suggest away!

visit 'Piece of Cake' quilting- i think they are in Colorado-
they have great beginner patterns, tutorials and dvd lessons to teach you to hand applique-
the dvd that comes to mind is 'Learn to applique the Piece of Cake way'
they show you great tips/helps to make the process easy to learn with good results right from the start.

When I wanted to learn needle turned applique, I did a small wall hanging. I loved the technique but I have not done a larger quilt using that technique.

The 2-fabric appliques from Nancy Chong of Pacific Rim Quilt Company are great ways to start with needle turn. They are small projects, don't require preparation of a lot of small pieces, and you wind up with a cute wall hanging.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions. I'll check all of these out. A small project to start with is probably a good idea!

This long video did it for me!! I also did machine applique but wanted to learn needle turn. Love Sharon's tutorials. No need to do something with the tiny pieces her bird requires!
