One cause of this is weight on the quilt -- for example, if it is getting hung up on a corner of the cabinet. Anything that causes drag on the quilt can result in the tiny stitches.

Another cause can simply be a worn-out walking foot. There is a spring inside the foot that can get worn out from use. You may need to buy a new walking foot.

If you are getting tiny stitches with your walking foot on, check to see if you have the arm engaged on the needle bar. It sounds simple but I have forgotten to put the arm onto the needle bar more than once. I was quilting along increasing my stitch length again and again and wondering what the heck was wrong. Duh....the arm not engaged.
