I pieced a small wall hanging and wanted to try to hand quilt it since I haven't done much in the last 20 years. I used warm and natural and found that it was too hard to hand quilt and ended up machine quilting it. Do any of you use that type of batting or was it just me trying to hand quilt after all these years?

I use Warm and Natural for all my quilting, hand and machine. I don't have a problem with it, but my best friend can't use it at all. She, like you, says it is too stiff.

I have tried warm and natural once and I won't use it for hand quilting again. For me it was hard to needle and I prefer cotton blends or cotton battings without scrim.
However I always try to do tiny stitches and this seems to be impossible with Warm and Natural.

I would never attempt to use W&N to hand quilt. I love it for machine quilting but not for hand. Like Born to handquilt I like blends. I have also been very satisfied with all poly for handquilting (quilters dream brand). I have yet to try wool which from what I have read is an absolute dream to hand quilt. I think my next handquilted quilt I may try wool.

Try Quilter's Dream 100% cotton for hand quilting.

I use W&N for hand quilting all the time. I guess since it's what I started with I didn't know it wasn't supposed to be difficult to needle. I do fairly small stitches with either a #11 or #12 Roxanne needle, use Thimblelady metal (although I have used the plastic one as well) thimble and push with the pad of my finger. Every one once in a while it will be tough to pull the needle out of the work but I have needle nosed pliers for that purpose. I'm working on a quilt now that a friend decided she didn't want to finish. She always uses Quilter's Dream cotton batting and honestly I don't notice much difference in the needling (is that a word) of either batting.

I too use warm and natural for hand quilting. I have used polyester batting when I first started quilting because I didn't know any better and I don't find any difference at all. Just my humble opinion.

It was not intended for hand quilting and is very hard to work with. I would recommend Hobbs 80/20 or wool. Love wool!!!!

Warm and Natural does not needle easy at all. I always use poly batting when I hand quilt. Some time I want to try wool which I have been told is wonderful for hand quilting.
