I ran the machine needle through my left index finger when I was six and just learning to sew. My dad just unscrewed the needle holder, pulled the needle out of my finger with pliers, and put Iodine on it (much more painful than the needle!) I screamed so loud I'm surprised the neighbors didn't call the authorities.

So today my only two ironclad rules for sewing are:

1. Keep your fingers a safe distance from your machine needle, and:

2. Measure twice, cut once.

When I was in highschool sewing class, that happen to my girlfriend. she sat behind me and started saying ow ow. I turned around she had the needle thru her finger. I started laughing don't know why, then I passed out. So the school nurse brings down the wheelchair and neither one of us wanted to sit in it very uncool in highschool lol. so her and I are argueing who has to sit in it. because I fainted I had to go to nurses office too. Needless to say the chair went back empty.

Been there done that only the needle broke off in my finger and coould not pull out. Went to the ER to have it dug out, painfull even with lidocaine. But get this the: The Dr. couldn't figure out how by hand sewing I could do this (so dumb to think we only hand sew) hope to never do that again.

Glad your ok. Sharp needle-yes and imense throbbing and hurt. I sewed thru my finger. So had to take pliers and pull the needle out of my finger nail. Late at nite and DH sleeping. Stuck to machine for awhile. I am careful, but every so often I feel the tip and pay attention to what I am doing and quit daydreaming.
