Sounds like the same way I take care of them and No problems yet, made many quilts without washing fabric first. I personally like my fabric crisp from the start, it makes it much easier to cut. I also throw my quilts in washer on delicate, cool water and low to medium heat in the dryer. Your exactly right.... It's all about personal preference.

prewashing is up to your own personal preference. i never wash a quilt if it is being given away. this is my preference since the quilts will look new until the new owner washes it.

I guess I came from the old school that thinks you don't wash a quilt until it needs washing. I want my quilts I give away to be new and I let them do the washing. I always prewash my material and I use polyester batting so they have never had one be ruined by washing. I made 7 flannel rag quilts one year for all my grandkids for Christmas and I did wash them several times.

I prewash and dry before quilting.

I had a disaster when I did no do this
and do not want another one.

If you can't wash/dry/use then I do not want it.

I prewash all my fabric. I've never washed a quilt, if it's a gift, before I give it. If it's some one I don't know I give them the laundry instructions. When I wash my quilts, I just throw them in the washer and dryer. No special treatment. I rotate my quilts on my bed monthly so they don't get wash often. Unless some one leaves me a hair ball.

DITTO on this one.... my quilts are made to love and use so I need to know they will hold up in the laundry. But I do tell people I give them to, to wash ~ warm water/gentle cycle with no bleach. Tumble dry. I love the puckers the dryer creates!

I wash them when they get dirty, and I tell all my giftee the same. I usually send along instructions with the quilt on how to care for if.

I almost never prewash, unless it is a bright red. and i always wash my quilt as soon as it is done. I wash gentle and dry low. all my quilts are used a lot so I don't worry about re-squaring.

I have not done a big quilt yet, but when I give a afghan away I let the person know it has not been washed yet, As I use cheap dollar store laundry soap most of the time. Hubby just bought me a box of gain for the quilts. yah. my oldest boy was alergic to most laundry soap, so I am very careful of what people prefer. Penny
