Ok so here is the problem I need to make a quilt for a nephew going to LSU in the fall. I have 2 kinds of LSU fabric and lots of different yellows (golds) and purples. My DH says the color is gold I say gold is what they have on metalic fabric, mater of opinion and after all we are talking about the man who when I said I wanted the livingroom painted tan with a hint of yellow ended up painting it yeild sign yellow while I was away visitind DS and DIL. it was quite a shock!
To the point I have been thinking yellow and purple log cabin sqs. with a center panel of LSU fabric. I am not compleatly happy with this idea.
Maybe I just have an adversion to these two colors together but I can't come up with a single idea that I will enjoy making!
What pattern would you use if you had to make a yellow and purple quilt? Please help me out here I am at my wits end about this.

Thank you for the links, I will put that one on my list as an option along with the log cabin. It looks very nice in the colors she had to use. Which color would you use for the larger spaces the yellow or the purple?

could you maybe find a checkered or patterned fabric and do a D9P with it? Or toss in some white and use the 3 colors?

(Think goldenrod...not yellow .. .maybe that will help, lol)

Congratulations on your nephew going to LSU!!! I'd like to suggest a couple things.... First, the gold can be see on this LSU fabric http://www.stitch-n-frame.net/cgi-bi...ollegeFootball . This is one place that has the twill type 60" wide LSU fabric that is nice to work with.
Then as to the pattern, you can google LSU quilts and see a few suggestions, there is at least 1 LSU quilt here too. The LSU gold is really more of a yellow on some things. You may also want to include some "tiger stripe" fabric into the quilt for an accent, or a picture of a Bengal Tiger.

Have fun with this and I'm sure that he will love it! If you want to be silly with it you could always quilt 'tiger bait' into the quilt somewhere.....

One color that really goes well with purple is royal blue, depending on the shade of purple. My sister redid her bedroom and bathroom in purple and royal blue with silver/gray/pewter accessories. Those rooms are so very beautiful.

Just a suggestion or food for thought.

It would be easier if you could post a pic of some of your material.

You could do snowball blocks with the LSU fabric as the center and the corners the various yellows and purples. I made a quilt alternating the snowball blocks with 9-patch blocks and it came out real nice.

That sounds like a good idea then I wouldn't have to chop up the school fabric too much and it would go together quickly.
