What am I missing? Is it the money order that's fishy? Or the fact that he wants to come pick up the machines? Or that he's willing to pay asking price? I've never sold anything on Craig's list - although I've looked at stuff - and am interested in the correct procedure!

Check this one out before you do anything. My son was selling his motorcycle and someone answered right away wanting to send him a check and someone was going to pick the bike up. Anyway, it was a scam because by the time you went to the bank with the check, the bike was gone and the check bounced and you can't find the person who wrote it. They say they're cashier's checks and look like them, but they're not what they seem. Anyway, there's a site you can check out this kind of scam. Just be careful. Wouldn't want you out your machines and the money.

I hear so many bad things about Craigslist that I don't think I'd ever use it. Just this morning on the "Today" show (NBC) there was a segment about a man that was murdered by people responding to an ad he placed on Craigslist. Seller Beware!!!

There have been lots of money order scams. Tell him you will accept ONLY a USPS money order, or a bank cashiers check and see what happens. And tell him that the person "who picks them up" can give you the money order then. Then sit back and see what happens. 60 Minutes had a show about fake money orders.

I agree with the cash only deal.It is sad that so many people are so dishonest. They have even offered to pay me more for the inconvenience since they had to go out of town, then said that an associate would pick it up with a money order. Bull crap!! If they can pick it up with a money order, they can stop by the bank first and bring the cash in hand.

So are Ebay and Etsy better to sell things? I was thinking of doing an ad on Craigslist for services where I live, now am having second thoughts.
I would not do the deal that the original person said was out there, it is a scam.
I have heard of that before.

I purchase on Ebay often with good results, but as with crossing the street, you are really on your own, look both ways!

Personally I think Craigs list is a joke and full of scammers. I've done Ebay for 10 years, buying and selling with no problems.

Thanks, am looking at a new way to do income due to health problems that have popped up with my leg - arthritis and bone spurs. I can no longer climb up on step stools etc for cleaning houses. I can sew!
I was thinking ok I can do ironing and sewing repairs - not alterations in my home as well as some other types of sewing - quilted goodies.
